I have been coming to Houston about every 1 to 3 months for the last 10 years to work with a doctor who specializes in dystonia, which is the medical condition that I have. While here, I have developed some wonderful relationships. Some of them have been through women in film where I often see Anita Long who was the president. I have given several seminars for the group through the years and also made some friends of people within the group such as Anita and the current president – Trish Rigdon. I have given some seminars for the Houston screenwriters group, as well, and Glenn Gattenby has been one of the people putting these seminars together since he’s on the board. So Peter and I had dinner with Glenn and his friend Sandy last night at a South American restaurant with the most fascinating decor and beautiful food.
It is a real blessing to meet people from many parts of the US and around the world and experience relationships which move from colleagueship to friendship. Sometimes I think it only takes about three lunches together and there is often a moment when you realize you switch from ‘professional mode’ and realize that there is a nice connection with this person and that there is something sweetly and kindly personal as a friendship develops. So Anita Long, and Glenn Gattenby are two people that I have really enjoyed meeting in Houston and spending time with them.
And I really enjoyed Glenn’s friend tonight – Sandy, as well.
Community can happen anywhere…and I’m pleased it has happened here in. Houston.
